Northland Debt Collection recovers unpaid debts and arranges service of legal documents for businesses from Auckland north. Our office is at 12 Empire Street, Kaitaia.
Why we set the business up this way
Most agencies that will happily take a Northland file are not in Northland. They will send letters, make calls, and do a competent job right up until the debtor stops responding — at which point the file quietly stalls, because the next step requires someone to physically attend, and that is a plane ticket away.
We built the business around that gap. Being here means the escalation that actually resolves stalled files is available on every single one, not reserved for debts big enough to justify the travel.
How we work
We tell you what we think. If a debt looks unrecoverable, you will hear that before you have spent anything. An honest assessment costs you nothing and saves you months.
We charge on results. A $120 set-up fee to open the file, then 20% of what we recover, plus disbursements. Commission is charged only on money that actually comes in — if we recover nothing, none is payable.
We stay professional. Aggression is not what recovers debts — persistence, clear documentation and the credible prospect of escalation are. A collector who oversteps just hands the debtor a grievance to hide behind.
We know where the lines are. Debt collection is our own work, start to finish. Process serving we manage for you, with the service itself carried out by licensed process servers we engage — we say so on the page rather than leaving you to find out. And we do not trace people, because obtaining a person’s whereabouts for reward is licensed investigative work in New Zealand and we do not hold that licence. We would rather tell you where the lines sit than blur them.
The area we cover
Our ground is the Far North: Kaitaia and the Aupōuri Peninsula, Kaikohe and the mid north, Doubtless Bay and Mangōnui, and the Hokianga on both sides of the harbour.
From there we work south — Kerikeri and the Bay of Islands, Whangārei, Dargaville and the Kaipara, and on into Auckland — along with the smaller communities in between that most agencies never reach.
Common questions
Are debt collectors licensed in New Zealand?
Debt collection itself is not a licensed activity — the Private Security Personnel Licensing Authority has confirmed it falls outside its jurisdiction. Repossession agents and private investigators do require licences. Collectors remain fully bound by the Fair Trading Act, the Privacy Act and the Harassment Act.
Do you buy debts?
No. We act as your agent to recover what you are owed, and the money goes to you. We do not purchase debt ledgers, so our interests stay aligned with yours rather than with a book we bought at a discount.
How big a debt do you take on?
There is no fixed minimum, though very small debts are often better handled with a payment arrangement than a formal process. Tell us the number and we will give you a straight view on whether pursuing it makes commercial sense.
What areas do you actually cover in person?
Our base is Kaitaia, so the Far North is our strongest ground — Kaitaia and the peninsula, Kaikohe and the mid north, Doubtless Bay and the Hokianga. We also cover Kerikeri and the Bay of Islands, Whangārei, Dargaville and the Kaipara, and south into Auckland. In-person attendance is part of the standard service, not a chargeable extra.
