Privacy policy
How we handle personal information, in line with the Privacy Act 2020.
Who we are
Northland Debt Collection provides debt recovery and process serving services. This policy explains how we handle personal information under the Privacy Act 2020.
What we collect
From clients: contact details, business details, and information about the debts you ask us to recover.
From debtors: identity and contact details, information about the debt, records of our communications, and payment history.
From website visitors: the information you enter into our enquiry form, plus standard analytics data about how the site is used (see Cookies and analytics below).
How we use it
We use personal information to assess and recover debts, serve legal documents, communicate with the parties involved, meet our legal obligations, and improve our services. We do not sell personal information.
Who we share it with
We may disclose information to our client (where you are a debtor), to credit reporting agencies where a default listing is appropriate and lawful, to solicitors where legal action is instructed, and to courts or regulators where required by law.
Cookies and analytics
This site uses Google Analytics via Google Tag Manager to understand how visitors find and use it. This includes recording which pages are viewed and which enquiry actions are taken. This information is used in aggregate to improve the site.
You can block these cookies through your browser settings without affecting your ability to use the site or contact us.
Storage and security
Information is held securely and retained only as long as needed for the purposes above, or as required by law. Access is limited to the people who need it to do their work.
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, request access to it, and request correction if it is wrong.
If you are a debtor and you believe we hold incorrect information — particularly about the amount owed or whether a debt is disputed — tell us. We would rather fix an error than pursue an incorrect debt.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, contact us first and we will look into it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
Contact
Contact details for privacy requests are on our contact page.
Tell us about the debt
No obligation, and the assessment is free. We will come back to you the next business day with an honest view of your chances.
Owed money? Let us take it from here.
Send us the details and we will tell you honestly what we think is recoverable — before you commit to anything.
