Debt collection that gets a response

Firm, professional recovery of unpaid invoices for businesses from Auckland north. A $120 set-up fee to open the file, then 20% of what we recover, plus disbursements.

What this involves

Letter of demand

A formal, properly worded demand that makes the position and the consequences unambiguous. A large share of debts are paid at this stage alone.

Direct debtor contact

Sustained phone and written contact by someone who does this all day. Persistent and professional, without crossing into harassment.

Field attendance

When a debtor has stopped responding, we attend in person. This is what a national agency working your file remotely simply cannot offer.

Payment arrangements

Where a debtor genuinely cannot pay in full, a structured and monitored arrangement usually beats an unenforceable judgment.

Credit default listing

Listing a default with a credit bureau has real consequences for a business that needs finance — and often prompts payment on its own.

Legal escalation

If proceedings become the right call, we set out the likely cost and prospects, then prepare and file the documents ourselves at fixed fees. Quoted at each stage, and only ever with your written approval.

Commercial debt recovery for Northland and Auckland businesses

An unpaid invoice is not just missing revenue. It is your money funding someone else’s cashflow, and every week it sits there the odds of recovering it get worse.

We handle that recovery for businesses from Auckland north — firmly, professionally, and on terms where our interests are aligned with yours. Almost everything we earn on a file is a percentage of what we actually recover, so a file that goes nowhere earns us next to nothing.

Our fee, stated plainly

A $120 set-up fee to open the file, then 20% of what we receive, plus disbursements.

  • $120 to open a file. A one-off set-up fee covering the assessment, the file build and the letter of demand. There is no joining fee, no monthly minimum and no per-letter charge on top of it.
  • 20% of what we receive. Charged only on money that actually comes in. If the debt is not recovered, no commission is payable — the set-up fee and any disbursements already incurred still apply.
  • Disbursements. Court filing fees and bailiff service at cost; field attendance and mileage at set rates. Quoted to you in advance and itemised on the invoice.
  • Legal escalation is quoted separately. Preparing and filing court documents, judgments and attachment orders are fixed fees, payable before that work starts. You are never obliged to take a file down that route — you are quoted at each stage and decide each time, and nothing begins without your written approval.
  • Confirmed in writing. Before we make a single call.

Many of the larger agencies decline to publish anything at all. We would rather you knew the numbers before you picked up the phone.

If you would rather not wait on recovery at all, we also buy some commercial debts outright — an agreed sum now instead of a share of what eventually comes in. It depends on the file, and on a strong debt you will usually net more by having us collect it. See debt purchase.

What actually recovers money

Speed matters more than aggression

Recovery rates fall off sharply with age. A debt handed over at 60 days is a materially different proposition from the same debt at twelve months. The single biggest improvement most businesses can make is handing files over sooner — not pushing harder later.

Most people pay after a properly worded demand

A formal letter of demand that sets out the debt, the terms it arose under, and the consequences of continuing to ignore it resolves a substantial share of files on its own. It works because it signals that the informal stage is over.

The rest respond to presence

When letters and calls have stopped landing, the file needs a person. Attending in person changes the dynamic entirely — it removes the option of pretending the problem is not there. This is the part that agencies working Northland from a distance cannot really do, and it is the main reason clients move their files to us.

Where we work

We work from Kaitaia. The Far North is our strongest ground — Kaitaia and the Aupōuri Peninsula, Kaikohe and the mid north, Doubtless Bay and Mangōnui, and the Hokianga. From there we cover Kerikeri and the Bay of Islands, Whangārei, Dargaville and the Kaipara, and south into Auckland.

Field attendance across this area is part of the service, not a special arrangement.

Working within the rules

Debt collection in New Zealand is not a licensed activity — the Private Security Personnel Licensing Authority has confirmed it falls outside its jurisdiction — but it is far from unregulated. Collectors are bound by the Fair Trading Act, the Privacy Act, and the Harassment Act. That means no misrepresenting our authority, no threatening consequences we cannot deliver, no contact at unreasonable hours, and no discussing the debt with people who have nothing to do with it.

We take that seriously, and not only for compliance reasons. A collector who oversteps hands the debtor a grievance to hide behind, and makes the debt harder to recover.

Common questions

How much does it cost?

A $120 set-up fee to open the file, then 20% of what we actually receive, plus disbursements. There is no joining fee and no charge per letter. If nothing is recovered no commission is payable, though the set-up fee and any disbursements already incurred still apply. Everything is confirmed in writing before we start work.

What counts as a disbursement?

Costs on your file beyond the collection work itself. Court filing fees and bailiff service are passed on at cost. Field attendance and mileage are charged at set rates, quoted to you before we attend. Everything is itemised, and we seek your approval before incurring anything material.

What do you need from me to start?

The invoice or statement, your terms of trade or contract if you have one, and a short summary of what has already been said or promised. Anything else we will ask for as we go.

How long does recovery usually take?

Straightforward commercial debts often resolve within two to four weeks of the letter of demand. Files needing field attendance or a payment arrangement take longer. We will give you a realistic estimate once we have seen the file, not an optimistic one.

Can you collect from a debtor who has moved?

If you have a current address we can act. We do not currently offer standalone tracing of a debtor whose whereabouts are unknown — that is licensed investigative work in New Zealand. Where an address has gone stale we will tell you plainly and discuss the options.

Do you collect consumer debt as well as business debt?

Yes, though commercial and trade debt is our core work. Consumer collection in New Zealand carries additional obligations under the Fair Trading Act and the responsible lending rules, and we work within them.

What are my obligations if I hand a debt over?

Keep us informed. If the debtor pays you directly, or you agree something with them, tell us straight away so we can stop. Commission is payable on amounts recovered while the file is with us, including direct payments prompted by our involvement.

Are debt collection costs recoverable from the debtor?

Often, yes — if your terms of trade say so. A well-drafted collection costs clause lets you pass our commission on to the debtor. If your terms do not include one, we are happy to point out what a good clause looks like for next time.
